I absolutely love a great story. Arcane has my heart. The execution of the story is top notch—from the characters to the plot to the animation. There are so many themes it explores, yet it is able to develop all of them so well. How??? It is able to explore so much and not take away from any of the other themes. Its characters are real and flawed, and the relationships between them are so complex. The world-building is intricate, and it actively shapes and reflects the characters’ internal struggles. It is a tool to further develop the characters and the plot. The artistic choices within the animation style and the music are all so well thought out, with each change and shift serving to deepen our understanding of the characters. Most of all, Arcane doesn’t rely on cheap drama or forced conflict—it finds moments in authentic character relationships and choices to drive the story forward. Everyting about Arcane is so well done. It is so difficult to create a piece of media that executes so well on so many levels, ultimately achieving a perfect harmony where every element works together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
